The Midget Select Tournament on Sunday July 10th at Tree Nursery Park- Midhurst-

5 teams participated in this tournament on Sunday and we saw some great competition and a long day of ball for some teams.

Teams entered were- GBMSL 1, GBMSL 2, Topham, Unionville & Kitchener

It was likely one of the warmest days this summer but thankfully we had some breeze throughout the day and event a few drops of rain along the way to make the day tolerable.

The Format was a double elimination with an extra game for the bottom 2 teams to establish position

We want to thank our umpires, Pat Crippin, Pat Rodgers, Rene Robitaille & Dave Mahaffey, it was a hot day as players so we know the umpires where really feeling the heat as well. Special thanks to Rene & Pat R. who hung in there at the end and did the final 2 games. The day went as long as it could as Unionville came back in the gold/silver game to defeat Kitchener which meant another game had to be played. Kitchener held their ground this time though and ended up as the Gold Medalists after another tough battle with Unionville.

Our GBMSL team played well considering the was the first time we came together and the pitching help we were hoping for didn't happen. We were impressed with your desire to play and we truly believe that when you start to get to know each other and play as team we'll see some great results. Congratulations on your 3rd place finish

1st- Kitchener, 2nd- Unionville, 3rd- GBMSL 1, 4th-GBMSL 2, 5th-Topham

The other 4 teams in our tourney!

Sunday July 17th in Kitchener

5 Teams Participated in this tournament- GBMSL-1st, Bramalea-2nd, Unionville-3rd, Topham-4th, Kitchener-5th

Wow, what a scorcher that was. The temperature was supposed to reach a high of 35 degrees and needless to say that's not ideal ball weather. You guys went out there with grit and determination and from the very first game you started to play like a team and make things happen. A five team double elimination can be a good day or a fairly long day depending on whether you can stay on the undefeated side. This weekend was kind of an opposite of our previous weekend in Midhurst as you captured both game 1 and 2 and made your way into the finals. Our first game was against Bramalea and this was a new team for us this year so we really didn't know what to expect. A slow start showed us behind by a couple of runs but then things started to happen and the score started to climb. You guys never looked back and the victory was there for the taking. We had seen Unionville a week earlier and they had been our demise. We came up against them in game 2 as they were also undefeated and the winner would get to move on to the finals. We really wanted this win as it would give us a much wanted break for 2 hours and the losing team would have to play 2 more games in a row, we all knew it was too hot for that. Again our defensive skills and our bats went to work and the win was ours, quite an opposite game from just one week earlier. The break was nice and at around 5 p.m. the remaining team in the pool arrived back to face us for the Gold, it was Bramalea for the second time in a day. We started slow as in our first game against them and just like game 1 we added a few more along the way and captured our third win in a row. Alden & Guy pitched magnificently and were definitely instrumental in our day. Congratulations everyone on a fabulous day, one that won't be forgotten soon!

BRAMALEA- Saturday July 23rd, 2011

Another scorcher of a day and some tight games. We started off the morning against Topham Park and when our bats started working the runs started to accumulate. This was our strongest offensive game of the day with a 17-10 score by the end. It was a tough day for us as we only had 9 players so there was no opportunity to sit an inning and get some shade and there was no shade to be found.  Even tarps did nothing as the sun beat down on us. As the day went on, you could see the faces turning red and the fatigue setting in as well as the odd injury that didn't have a chance to get in the way of the game. Bramalea got the best of us in the second game and in game 3 we took on Kitchener where we pulled off a 7-1 win. At the end of the round robin, we had a 3 way tie for 1st but the Rattlers had a solid plus 11 run spread which put us in first place overall. Kitchener had a plus 4 and Topham a plus 3. Had we scored one more run against Kitchener, it would have sent them to the consolation round.  It almost happened as we had a runner on 3rd with 2 out when they called that game due to the time curfew. Well Kitchener played well in the final against us and injuries had a real effect on our team with 3 of them in the final game. We still fought hard but ended up losing with a 12-6 score in the final game. Good luck Guy with your knee, we hope it's just a bruise and everyone else with sore wrists, legs, arms, etc.

Congratulations on a successful day as we continue the journey towards the provincials on Aug 20th in Midhurst!
