Georgian Bay Rattlers Peewee Rep Team makes early exit at Elims

On Friday July 6th, the Georgian Bay Rattlers Peewee Rep team travelled to Cobourg to compete in the O.A.S.A Elims tournament. The top three finishers in this tournament would move on to compete in either the Eastern Canadian Nationals in New Brunswick or the Western Canadian Nationals in Saskatchewan .  The young Rattlers team consisting of all first year Peewee players except one, would start the tournament off against a more seasoned Stouffville Storm team.  Through the first few innings both teams exchanged the lead, with the Rattlers holding a slim 6-5 lead through 3 innings.  The next 2 innings saw the Rattlers struggle to get outs, giving up 6 in each of these innings.  The Rattlers would win the next 2 innings but it would not be enough. Final score Stouffville 17 Rattlers 9.  Game 2 had the Rattler team facing the Ennismore A's as  well as elimination in this double knockout format.  The first 2 innings great defence kept this a low scoring affair and the Rattlers trailed 1-0 after 2.  In the third, the Rattlers finally found their bats and scored 4 runs to to take a lead they would not relinquish.  Final score Rattlers 7 Ennismore 4.  Game 3 had the Rattlers matching up against a very strong team from Chepstow.  4 innings passed by and only 2 runs came across the plate and the Rattlers trailed by a slim 2-0 margin.  The Chepstow team would add 2 runs in the fifth and took a commanding 4-0 lead.  The Rattlers battled hard and trailing by 4 in the 7th inning with 2 out they finally realized their tournament might be over and would let 8 Chepstow runners cross the plate before posting the final out.  The young Rattler team battled hard all weekend and were led by strong pitching performances from Foster Lohnes and Derek Sweeney who counted on their stellar infield defence of Eric Cote, Sean Moriarity, Greg Wagner, Alex Sweeney, Matt Clarke and catcher Nathan Balkwill.  The outfielders, Harrison Sibbald, Kyle Dougherty, Ben Brazda and Hunter Sibbald made some spectacular catches and kept the Rattlers in every game.  The Rattlers would like to thank their friends, family and all the other fans that cheered loudly for them all tournament.  The Georgian Bay Rattlers Peewee Rep Team will be back in action on Tuesday July 9th at 9pm at the Elmvale arena where they will take on the Barrie Storm Novice Rep Girls team in an exhibition game.
