The Georgian Bay Squirt Select Rattlers team started their season off by taking Gold in the Unionville Spartan tournament this weekend.

In their first game they started out a little nervous against some strong Stouffville pitching.  The bats eventually came around and the Rattlers ended up taking the victory 20-1.
In game 2 the Rattlers faced Richmond Hill.  With the Rattlers being rested the Richmond Hill
pitchers were no match for the strong hitting Rattler team with the final score being 15-0 for the Rattlers.
Game 3 saw the Rattlers play their second of 3 back to back to back games against Cambridge Red.  With the Rattlers confidence being high they quickly got out to a large lead and never looked back winning the game in 3 short innings 25-0.

Game 4 saw the rain begin to fall and the Rattlers were up against an undefeated Belleville team.  This Championship game was set to be the Rattlers biggest challenge.  Through 2 innings,  great defensive plays by both teams kept the score at a nail biting 0-0. It was in the 3rd inning when the Rattlers finally scored a run and that one run brought the rest of the Rattlers bats to life.  The Rattlers eventually went on to win in a rain shortened 6 inning game 10-0.

Outscoring their opponents 70-1 on the weekend, the Rattlers proved that as good as they are offensively they are an even better team defensively and ready to work hard on achieving their goal of winning Provincials.

Squirt Select Takes Gold at Sharks' Summer Slam Tournament

The Georgian Bay Rattlers Squirt Select team travelled to Stouffville in hopes of taking top spot at the Stouffville Sharks' Summer Slam Tournament.  Nine other teams stood between the Rattlers' and their goal of Gold. The Rattlers' started out slow and had to come from behind against a determined Unionville squad but eventually prevailed taking the victory 13-2.  The next challenge for the Rattler's would be a young squad from Brace bridge. The up and coming Brace bridge team was in tough against a rested Rattlers team and struggled to get outs. The final score was 15-0 for the Rattlers.  Game three had the Rattlers play Richmond Hill in what was a must win for the Rattlers to have any chance at a Gold Medal game. The heavy hitting Rattler team was up for the challenge, taking the victory 18-2.  After a long day the Rattlers were finally within reach of their goal, winning Gold. An undefeated Cambridge team was ready and waiting for the challenge.  The Rattlers, once again rested, were in top form and took the victory in 4 short innings winning the game 20-0.  The Rattlers would like to thank all the parents for their supportive cheering (for all teams) throughout the day.  It was a day of great weather, excellent baseball and exceptional teamwork.

Georgian Bay Rattlers Squirt Select Take Gold

Aug 11th Weekend saw the Georgian Bay Squirt Select Rattlers travel to Springbrook to take part in the Squirt 'B' OASA Provincials.  With the Rattlers taking Gold in their first two Select Tournaments, they entered their first REP tournament with high expectations.  Game 1 of the Double Knockout tournament had them facing a well prepared team from Niagara on the Lake.  After 7 innings and several lead changes the very nervous Rattlers were handed their first loss of the season losing 6-5.  Game 2 had the Rattlers facing The Host team Springbrook.  Having learned many lessons in their first game, the Rattlers used their new found understanding of  'small ball' in an exciting come from behind 7 inning victory of 6-1.

Game 3 had the Rattlers facing elimination once again against a top ranked team from Port Perry. Coming off their first ever victory against a REP team, the Rattlers were confident and it showed in their batting. The Rattlers made quick work of Port Perry winning 17-4.  After eliminating 2 teams the Rattlers had assured themselves of bronze. Winning game 4 would send the Rattlers to a Gold/Silver game. A rematch with Niagara on the Lake in game 4 had the Rattlers looking to avenge their earlier loss.  Solid defense and timely hitting were the key in a tidy 6-1 victory.  To win Gold The Rattlers were going to have to win 2 games back to back against an undefeated team from Hepworth. Not being satisfied with anything less than gold the Rattlers made short work of the 2 games winning game 1 12-0 and game 2 16-4. Congratulations to the Georgian Bay Squirt Select Rattlers on winning the O.A.S.A. Squirt 'B' Provincials.  The Ratters hope to continue their winning ways when they take part in the Select Provincial  Championships on Aug 18th.
