Bracebridge Tournament- June 28th

Mite Select win their first tournament of the year

The mite select rattlers used timely hitting, strong defensive play, and formidable pitching to dominate their tournament in Bracebridge on Saturday.
The team went undefeated in taking home the championship. In decisive fashion, they claimed gold in the championship game, defeating Bramalea 21-6. The rattlers had already defeated the host Bracebridge, Unionville, and Stouffville teams.
Top hitters included Nic Lancione, Connor Smith, and Ian Robertson, while Carson Jones, Trent Peterson, Ty Groenwood and Sean Crooker were aggressive on the base paths. Jonas Columbus was a gold glover on the infield.
Alex Wickett and Nadia KleinGebbinck both had dominant pitching performances, with Alex giving up just 3 runs over 9 innings, and Nadia just 9 runs over 8 innings. Jonas, Ty, and Nic all did well out of the bullpen.

Special thanks go to Darlene Wickett and Kevin Peterson for their positive coaching help!
And a big shout-out to the Jones family, who surprised the players with awesome Rattler hoodies! It was so hot, we didn't get to use them much, but they will surely be much appreciated at future tournaments.

Gold in Bracebridge!

The mite select rattlers enjoyed an awesome Saturday in Unionville, winning all 4 of their games to claim another tournament championship! Next stop...Provincial Championships!
Facing better pitching then what we saw at our first tournament, the rattler bats continued to boom, batting over .600 as a team. Our pitchers battled hard. Although many had some difficulty finding the strike zone, they stuck with it and persevered. Keep practicing! I know you will be ready to go for Provincials!
Thanks once again to Darlene and Kevin for helping with coaching, Kate Crooker for taking some great photographs, and all the parents for their positive support!

The Provincials

August 16th & 17th, Georgian Bay (Victoria Harbour & Port McNicoll)

Wow, what a weekend that was! What an awesome amount of talent up and coming in the OSSTA select program in Ontario. The approx. 120 9 and 10 year olds who showed up in force to compete this weekend showed tremendous talent, ambition and sportsmanship and GBMSL was proud to be the chosen host of this event. Sadly the weatherman wasn't informed of our plans and rained on our parade (literally). Well we took the parade inside and Duncan Matheson, our awesome piper, led the parade around the arena as the teams proudly followed displaying their team signs. Special thanks go to Sandra (Chappy's Engraving) & Keith for the signs, MVP medals, pennants, bats and a lot of organizing to make the day a success. Roy Patenaude, past president of OASA, was on hand to help in the presentations on Sunday. Special thanks to the umpires who committed to the event and agreed to put aside Sunday plans to come back and help us get through the weekend successfully. Saturday ended after 2 complete games and a lot of rain. The diamonds were officially muck and we couldn't keep playing. The rain date that we often ignore and hope won't be needed became a reality and we passed on the plans to resume on Sunday a.m.

We truly felt bad for the teams that couldn't return on Sunday, we were also truly greatful to the 5 teams that were able too! Sunday saw a continuation of some great ball. Not once during the weekend was a negative comment made (at least that I heard). It was all about the kids and making it a memory and we trust that we were able to pull that off!

Congratulations to all the teams and of course to the GBMSL Rattlers on their Championship. It's hard to beleive the season has wound down and we look forward to next year when it all starts over again!

Thanks go out to Duncan Matheson, Mayor Scott Warnock, Tay Township, Roy Patenaude, The umpires (you know who you are) and of course Keith & Sandra for planning the whole thing. Above all thank you Parents, Coaches and players, you made this work and a true success!!
